EXHIBITIONS
Let's dive into the highlights of our summer line-up. Prepare to be captivated by the thought-provoking exhibition, "Disruptive Women" by Conflict Textiles. This powerful collection of arpilleras showcases the stories of women who have made a significant impact on society through their courage and resilience. For those intrigued by the art of storytelling through stitches, "Stitching a Story" by Wilma Kirkpatrick is a must-see. Explore Wilma’s selection of quilts and samples, each carefully crafted to narrate a unique tale. Witness the beauty and intricacy of textile art and be inspired to create your own narrative through fabric and thread.
FAMILY FUN
If you're in search of family-friendly excitement, our Puffin Rock Exhibition is not to be missed. To celebrate the launch of the feature-length film, "Puffin Rock and the New Friends," we are delighted to host a special exhibition in our gallery that immerses you in the enchanting world of Oona and friends. Join us for a free screening of the new film, and delight in creative workshops, and activities inspired by these lovable characters. From wet-felting to claymation, fused glass and more, there's an opportunity for every age to engage in playful creativity.
MAKE + DO Kids
But that's not all! We have an array of workshops and events designed to cater to every artistic interest. Our Make + Do programme is packed full of opportunities for kids and young people, offering them the chance to get their hands dirty and unleash their imaginations. Clay with Fiona Shannon and fused glass workshops provide opportunities for participants of all ages to explore their creative potential plus we have a parent and guardian workshop
Art in the Park sessions with Linda are back, and will run on Saturdays through the summer, your little ones can soak up the beauty of nature while expressing themselves artistically and having tonnes of fun! The Summer Wonders series, held on weekdays, promises a fantastic theme each week, ensuring your kids never run out of inspiration.
We are thrilled to welcome James of Fun with Drums to lead engaging workshops that will have your little ones drumming to their own beat. And for your mini Mozarts, Sea Shore Sounds with composer Emma Wallace offers a delightful sensory experience for children as young as 18 months. Plus we have Family Film Fridays in July and some live music in the park!
MAKE + Do Adults
August Craft Month is another highlight not to be missed. Immerse yourself in a series of workshops (for 18+ years) led by talented local makers, covering various crafts such as jewellery making, pottery, and fused glass. Don't miss the chance to participate in a one-off Raku workshop with Malcolm Murchison, or to create a stunning nuno-felted scarf with Shelley Steele. And for those with a love for leathercraft, Enda Kelly will guide you in creating a hand-stitched and dyed leather satchel that you'll treasure for years to come.
COMMUNITY
Flowerfield Arts Centre is committed to fostering creativity and community engagement. As part of Woven Hug, a Community Textiles Project, we invite you to contribute to a collaborative artwork that celebrates the diversity and unity of our community. Join us and leave your mark on this extraordinary project which is delivered by Tere Chad and Cordelia Rizzo in partnership with Conflict Textiles, Linen Biennale, Ulster University and Queen’s University, and supported by using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs.
