22nd January 2026
We were delighted to host a local creatives preview of our exhibition in partnership with ACNI. This special event attended by the Mayor, invited guests and members of the local creative community. The showcase celebrates the work of six artists who have been supported through funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to explore how emerging technologies can expand and transform creative practice.
Bringing together illustrators, musicians, composers, fashion designers and filmmakers, the project has enabled artists to experiment with tools such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and other digital technologies, opening up new ways of working, presenting and engaging audiences. The resulting showcase highlights not only the diversity of artistic disciplines involved, but also the exciting creative potential that technology offers across the arts.
In his opening remarks, the Mayor welcomed the inclusion of digital and immersive work within Flowerfield’s programme, noting the centre’s strong reputation for live music, creative workshops, exhibitions and community engagement.
He reflected on how the arts often act as a pioneering force, leading innovation and inspiring new ways of seeing and thinking. While much of the work on display represents new territory for many audiences, it demonstrates the significant role technology can play in shaping the future — not only within the arts, but across other sectors as well.
The Mayor also emphasised the importance of continued support for artists, creatives and cultural venues, recognising their contribution both locally and across Ireland. He encouraged people of all ages to visit the showcase, particularly young people studying art or technology, to experience first-hand how creative practice is evolving.
The ACNI Digital and Immersive Showcase runs at Flowerfield Arts Centre until Saturday 24th Janaury and is open to the public with free drop-in sessions available throughout the week.
