Get ready for August Craft Month!

Northern Ireland’s unique celebration of the craft sector is almost here, offering opportunities to experience, participate in, buy, and learn about crafts.

At Flowerfield Arts Centre we invite you to explore the Causeway Craft Trail Makers Showcase Exhibition and join expert-led workshops in fused glass with Natasha Duddy, Tiffany-style glass with EJ McCartney, Raku with Malcolm Murchison, ceramics with Fiona Shannon, and wood spoon sculpting with Valkyrie Crafts. Don’t miss the chance to watch Andrea Spencer demonstrate advanced flameworked glass techniques and try melting glass yourself. To close the month, join Janey Moffat's exciting textile workshops ahead of her exhibition "All Us Women," opening on 7th September.

Visit the Causeway Craft Trail Makers Showcase from 3-31 August. Discover the finest contemporary and traditional crafts, including exquisite glasswork, traditional boat making, and beautiful ceramics by featured makers along the trail.

DEMONSTRATIONS

MCCALL GILFILLAN THROWING DEMONSTRATION

Join us to open the Craft Trail Makers Exhibition. McCall will host a special pottery throwing demonstration at 12.45pm. This is a great chance to see techniques and work on the wheel.

A rare opportunity to see artist Andrea Spencer demonstrate an advanced glass work skill. Flameworking is the technique of melting glass rods over an open flame, using tools to manipulate the glass into detailed shapes and forms. You will see how Andrea makes her delicate flameworked glass sculptures that are inspired by natural forms and will also be able to try your hand at melting glass in the flame.

Natasha Duddy teaches you how to design, colour and fuse a beautiful glass sea wave. No previous experience is required.

As part of our Craft Trail Artists exhibition launch, John Wilkinson of Valkyrie Craft delivers a fascinating introduction to the universal and ancient art of utensil carving.

SLIP & SGRAFFITO CLAY WORKSHOP WITH MCCALL GILFILLAN - LAST SPACE

A very special opportunity to experiment in the classical carving technique of Sgraffitto on leather-hard vessels wheel pre-thrown by McCall. You will decorate and carve a vessel, creating a collaborative piece of art between you and the artist.

INTENSIVE THROWING MASTERCLASS - SOLD OUT

Fiona Shannon will teach you the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel using stoneware clay as well as techniques to refine your work so you can complete a range of pots including bowls, mugs, side plates and jugs.

Discover the exquisite art of stained glass Tiffany style with E-J McCartney. Suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience.

RAKU CERAMICS WORKSHOP - SOLD OUT

Glaze and fire pre-made pots in the ancient Japanese process of Raku, led by Malcolm Murchison. Taking home at least four beautiful pots, this is a rare opportunity to experience a highly specialised technique.

Join artist Fiona Shannon in sculpting your very own sea swimmer bust inspired by the beauty of the ocean.

UNCOVER THE ANCIENT ARTISTRY OF IRISH NEOLITHIC POTTERY - SOLD OUT
Saturday 24 August | 10.30am – 1pm | Cost: £30 full, £27 concession

Uncover the ancient artistry of Irish Neolithic Pottery in our immersive workshop including a short talk by archaeologist Catriona Brogan, followed by you creating a piece with Potter Fiona Shannon, using ancient techniques such as burnishing with stones and creating decoration with wood and bone.
