AUGUST CRAFT MONTH AT FLOWERFIELD ARTS CENTRE: COASTAL CREATIVITY, CLAY & GLASS THIS SUMMER
This August, Flowerfield Arts Centre invites you to take part in August Craft Month, a celebration of creativity, making, and materials inspired by the natural world around us. From glass and ceramics to basketry and family-friendly clay workshops, our programme offers something for every age and ability level — whether you’re trying something new or building on existing skills.
Set in the heart of the Causeway Coast, Flowerfield will once again become a hub for hands-on making, welcoming expert tutors and makers to guide participants through a rich series of creative workshops.
Coastal inspiration runs through every session
This year’s programme takes its cue from the landscape right on our doorstep — shoreline textures, shifting light, natural forms and the calming rhythm of the sea. Across glass, clay and fibre, participants will explore how coastal imagery can be transformed into beautiful, functional and decorative pieces.
WORKSHOPS
Coastal Glass Collection | Layered Coast Scene (18+)
Saturday 8 August | 1–4pm £60 full / £55 concession | Tutor: Natasha Duddy
Create a serene coastal composition using layered glass techniques. This workshop explores depth, horizon lines and atmospheric colour to build a unique shoreline scene that captures the calm and movement of the sea.
Coastal Reflections | Seaside Ceramic Mirror Frame (18+)
Saturday 8 August | 10.30am–12.30pm £45 full / £40 concession | Tutor: Fiona Shannon
Working with hand-building techniques, participants will design and decorate a ceramic mirror frame inspired by coastal elements such as shells, sea-worn pebbles, wave patterns and marine textures.
4-Day Intensive Throwing Course (18+)
Monday 10 – Thursday 13 August | 10am–4pm £225 full / £205 concession | Tutor: Fiona Shannon
A focused and immersive introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel. Over four days, you’ll learn essential skills including centring clay, pulling walls, and shaping simple forms such as bowls and cylinders — perfect for beginners or those looking to refine technique.
Gathering Basket Masterclass (18+)
Friday 14 August | 9.30am–5pm £85 full / £80 concession | Tutor: Louise McLean (Atlantic Craft NI)
A full-day workshop with master craft practitioner Louise McLean, exploring traditional techniques to create a handcrafted gathering basket. Participants will gain hands-on experience in weaving processes and learn how natural materials are transformed into functional, beautiful forms.
