27th June 2019
We are delighted to present a selection of original artworks by award-winning illustrator P.J. Lynch. Pilgrims, Princesses and Beardy Old Men opens on Friday 5 July, 7-9pm and continues in our main galleries until 27 July.
Over the last three decades, the artist has illustrated books by some of the greatest writers for children. This exhibition will feature his work from 'The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey', recognised as one of the world's best-selling books (and soon to be released as a film), to classics such as Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol', right up to the recently published 'The Boy Who Fell Off the Mayflower', as well as P.J.'s charcoal drawings for 'Once Upon a Place', a new anthology of stories by top Irish writers, compiled by Eion Colfer.
Born in Belfast in 1962, PJ attended Brighton College of Art where he was taught by the one and only Raymond Briggs, creator of 'The Snowman'. PJ was also honoured to be Laureate na nÓg (Ireland’s laureate for children’s literature) between 2016 and 2018 and has won many awards including the Kate Greenaway Medal on two occasions. Combining his original artwork with the power of story, this exhibition will enchant young and old alike.
