ADULT DANCE | MOVING FORWARD WORKSHOPS

with ECHO ECHO & PETEC (Romania)

A wonderful opportunity over two evenings to experiment with movement and dance with international professionals, performers and teachers. Visiting performer-teachers from Romania and Moldova - Alexandra Soshnikova, Sergei Golovnea, Virginia Negru and Catalin Diaconu will lead two evenings of meditative, creative movement workshops for absolute beginners and more experienced dancers. Warm-up exercises, expressive moves and dance techniques. No experience necessary and perfect for creative physical expression, and fans of T’ai Chi and yoga to expand their movements. Suitable for ages 18+. The workshops are part of an international collaboration between Echo Echo and Romanian partners PETEC. Both companies will perform a professional collaborative work on Friday 2 August.

Glass artist Natasha Duddy teaches you how to design, colour and fuse a beautiful glass sea wave. You will select colour, cut, and assemble your glass pieces, adding a variety of glass materials, such as frits, stringers, pre fired dots or glass enamels to enhance your design. Your finished piece can be framed, hung, or mounted at home as wonderful wall art. A great way to discover the magic of glass making. No previous experience required. Please note, closed footwear must be worn for your own safety.

As part of our Craft Trail Artists exhibition launch, John Wilkinson of Valkyrie Craft delivers a fascinating introduction to the universal and ancient art of utensil carving. He will take you through the basic tools and equipment and guide you through the process to carve your own spoon, as well as outlining the history of carving, wood types and techniques.

A very special opportunity to experiment in the classical carving technique of Sgraffito on leather-hard vessels wheel pre thrown by McCall. You will decorate and carve a vessel, creating a collaborative piece of art between you and the artist which will be fired for later collection. McCall Gilfillan is an experienced potter and ceramics tutor whose work has been featured on The Great Pottery Throwdown, UTV, Your Place and Mine, and B&B by the Sea. She works from her Elements Studio in Downhill, part of the Causeway Craft Trail.

All materials and firing are included.

INTENSIVE THROWING MASTERCLASS - SOLD OUT

Join internationally exhibited Potter Fiona Shannon in a 4-day masterclass where you will cover the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel using stoneware clay as well as techniques to refine your work such as trimming bases, adding handles, spouts and textures to your pots. You will complete a range of pots including bowls, mugs, side plates and jugs which will be fired and collected at a later date. This is a 4 day, four hour workshop time per day with a break for lunch. Places are limited so please book early.


GLASS MAKING WORKSHOP | STAINED GLASS TIFFANY STYLE

Part of August Craft Month and celebration of our Craft Trail artists, a specialist glass workshop with E-J McCartney. A half-day workshop discovering the exquisite art of Stained Glass Tiffany Style. E-J will guide you through the process to create a unique panel of glass art to take away on the day. This class is suitable for complete beginners and those with some experiences are also very welcome. All the tools and equipment, including gloves, aprons and safety goggles are provided. Please note, closed toe footwear must be worn for your own safety. No crocs.


RAKU CERAMICS WORKSHOP - LIMITED AVAILABILITY

Part of August Craft Month NI & Causeway Craft Trail Artists at Flowerfield.

Glaze and fire pre-made pots in the ancient Japanese process of Raku, led by Malcolm Murchison. Apply the glaze with guidance and instruction, the pots go into a red-hot kiln, are extracted and placed in sawdust before a bath of cold water. The results are as unpredictable as they are exciting. You will take home at least four beautiful pots. A rare opportunity to experience a highly specialised technique.

Glass artist Natasha Duddy teaches the glass cutting and grinding skills to design and create your own fused glass plate. Participants will design, cut, and assemble their colour combinations to complete their designs. Each participant will design one plate each, from a range of moulds supplied. Once the plates are fused flat, they return to the kiln for a second firing to slump them into the mould shapes and will be ready to collect at a later date. A popular workshop and a fantastic introduction to glass making. For your safety, no open footwear allowed (no Crocs)

As part of August Craft Month, take some time to uncover the ancient artistry of Irish Neolithic Pottery in our immersive workshop with archaeologist Catriona Brogan and Potter Fiona Shannon. Experience the magic of moulding clay into timeless treasures while connecting with Ireland’s fascinating past. Following a short talk from Catriona, you will have the opportunity to create a piece inspired by Irish Neolithic pots using ancient techniques such as burnishing with stones and creating decoration with wood and bone. An unmissable dig into our ancient past.
